Florida State, Georgia Tech Share Women's Tennis Weekly Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( – Florida State’s Vic Allen was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Allen and her teammate Millie Bissett earned Doubles Team of the Week honors. Duke’s Shavit Kimchi picked up her third overall and second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor.

Allen picked up three wins in Florida State’s undefeated weekend as the then-No. 42 Seminoles grabbed the 6-1 upset win over No. 24 Georgia Tech and swept No. 53 Clemson. The 63rd-ranked graduate student from Ashbourne, United Kingdom, played to a straight-set 6-3, 6-3, win over Georgia Tech’s No. 45 Carol Lee on Court 1. She had the advantage over Clemson, 6-2, 4-3, before the match was clinched and Allen’s match was abandoned.

Allen and Bissett went 2-0 on the top doubles court, earning the 7-6 (3) tiebreaker win over GT’s 12th-ranked duo of Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura. The pair also registered a 6-4 win over Clemson’s duo of Cristina Mayorova and Daniella Medvedeva.

Nicholson went undefeated over the weekend, helping then-No. 24 Georgia Tech pick up a win over No. 19 Miami. She put up Tech’s only point against Florida State, topping Bissett on Court 4 in a super tiebreak, and picked up a win with Kylie Bilchev at No. 3 doubles to mark the duo’s first ACC win of the season. In singles play, the native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, kept her weekend record unblemished, pocketing a straight-set win over Leonie Schuknecht of No. 19 Miami, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7), on Court 4 to return the permanent lead to the Yellow Jackets. Nicholson is 7-4 in dual singles action and boasts a 5-2 record at No. 4 singles. 

Six teams are ranked in the top 25 of the ITA team rankings, with a pair of teams in the top 10 led by No. 6 Virginia, No. 8 North Carolina and No. 16 NC State. Duke improved to No. 19 and is followed by No. 20 Georgia Tech and No. 21 Miami.
