Florida Flawless on Day One of Commodore Invitational


NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Florida men’s tennis team started day one of the Commodore Invitational with six wins on Friday, Sept. 23 at Vanderbilt.
 
The doubles pair of Nate Bonetto and Lukas Greif kicked things off for the Gators with a convincing 8-5 victory over Vanderbilt’s Macsen Sisam and Siim Troost.
 
Will Grant and Axel Nefve delivered strong play in Flight Blue of doubles play against South Carolina’s Lucas da Silva and Illinois’ Nic Meister defeating the duo, 8-6.
 
All four Gators won their singles matches in the first round of competition in their respective Flights. No. 34 Axel Nefve battled with Auburn’s Alejandro Moreno for three sets before coming away with the 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, victory in his Florida debut. On the next court over Lukas Greif also went the distance delivering a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, win over No. 89 Jan Galka of Auburn.
 
Will Grant continued Florida’s three-set success pulling out the win against Auburn’s Finn Murgett, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. No. 91 Nate Bonetto took down South Carolina’s Jake Beasley in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
 
Florida continues competition at the Commodore Invitational tomorrow, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. ET with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles.
