Five Things to Know: Wisconsin Hosts B1G Individual Championships

MADISON, Wisc. – The Wisconsin men’s tennis team hosts the Big Ten Individual Championships this weekend, which will be the final tournament of their fall schedule. The event runs from Thursday through Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Matches begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Programs from across the Big Ten will be taking part in singles and doubles competition.

Here are the five things to know before the tournament:

1. FIRST FULL TEAM TOURNAMENT: For the first time this fall, the entire eight-member Badger team will compete together in their upcoming home event. Last weekend at the Fighting Irish Mini Duals, Sachiv Kumar, Edouard Aubert, Oliver Olsson, and Tomas Zlatohlavek put forth strong efforts to secure victories. Notably, Sachiv Kumar and Tomas Zlatohlavek led the team, each winning three of their four duals and also triumphing in their doubles matches.

2. LAST YEAR’S B1G INDIVIDUALS: Collin Beduhn, Matthew Fullerton, Oliver Olsson, and Tomas Zlatohlavek competed in 18 singles and nine doubles matches, giving fans a preview of the season. Fullerton and Zlatohlavek each advanced to the round of 16 in singles, with Fullerton also securing a notable win against the 85th-ranked ITA Preseason player. In doubles, Olsson and Zlatohlavek performed well, going 4-1 and reaching the round of 16.

3. LOOKING BACK AT THE FALL SEASON: This weekend will mark the fourth and final tournament of Wisconsin’s 2024 fall season. One prominent performance of the season came from standout freshman, Patrik Meszaros.  In just two tournaments, Meszaros achieved a stellar 7-2 record in singles and a 3-1 record in doubles alongside his partner, Michael Minasyan.
