Five Blue Devils Set for ITA Regional Championship


DURHAM – Five Blue Devils are set to open action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship this weekend. The championship will be contested Oct. 20 through Oct. 23 at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Juniors Ellie Coleman and Emma Jackson and sophomore Katie Codd will compete in the A1 bracket of the main draw, while senior Karolina Berankova battles in the A2 bracket.

Singles play begins at 9 a.m., Friday with Coleman facing Lucianna Piedra of Presbyterian in her opening match. Codd goes up against Charlotte’s Lucia Quiterio, while Jackson will versus Jesse Hollins of Coastal Carolina. Berankova will follow with her match against Amila Jusufbegovic of Charleston Southern at 10 a.m.

The Blue Devil duo of Jackson and Coleman open doubles action in the A2 bracket at 12 p.m., Friday against Appalachian State’s Ellie Murphy and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey. Shavit Kimchi and Berankova will team up to face Maggie Pate and Naledi Manyube of Appalachian State at 1:30 p.m. in the A1 bracket.

Live streams of the action along with live scoring will be available via the ITA.
