Fenty Posts Undefeated Weekend in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. –- The University of Michigan men’s tennis team faced off against University of San Diego, Arizona, Arizona State and San Diego State at the Hagedorn Hidden Duals this past weekend (Oct. 14-16).

The Wolverines and the Toreros split eight singles matches on Friday (Oct. 14) while Michigan took three of the four doubles matches. Rain cancelled out the scheduled singles matches on Saturday (Oct. 15), but Michigan was able to get in two doubles matches with Arizona State and one with SDSU, sweeping all three. On the final day (Oct. 16), Michigan and Arizona split the four doubles matches while the Sun Devils took five of eight in singles.

No. 42-ranked Andrew Fenty had a spectacular weekend, winning all of his matches. He went 2-0 in singles with a win over a ranked opponent from Arizona State and went 3-0 in doubles, highlighted by a win with partner Gavin Young over No. 13 ranked pair Jonas Ziverts/Herman Hoeyerall of Arizona, 6-3.

Young went 3-0 in doubles, playing two matches with Fenty and one with partner Will Cooksey. He came up short to No. 32-ranked Jonas Ziverts in three singles sets in his only loss on the weekend.

Patorn Hanchaikul won all three of his doubles matches, and Bjorn Swenson went 2-0 in singles.

Michigan will get back in action later this week at the ITA Regional Championships, which get underway on Thursday (Oct. 20) at the University of Illinois and run through Monday (Oct. 24).
