Eight Sun Devils Named ITA Scholar-Athletes; Women’s Tennis Named All-Academic Team


TEMPE For the second consecutive year eight student-athletes on Sun Devil Women’s Tennis were named ITA Scholar-Athletes and the Sun Devils were honored of being named an All-Academic Team the organization announced Monday.

Ada Piestrzynska, Chelsea Fontenel, Emilija Tverijonaite, Giulia Morlet, Marianna Argyrokastriti, Patricija Spaka, Rachel Hanford and Sara Svetac all excelled in the classroom having a GPA greater than a 3.50 to qualify. 

Argyrokastriti and Morlet were named Scholar Athletes for the fourth consecutive season. Spaka was named for a third straight season, Fontanel and Hanford were named for the second consecutive season. Piestrzynska, Svetac and Tverijonaite were named to the list for the first time.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
  • Be listed on the institutional eligibility form

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
  • All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
  • All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
