SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Nino Ehrenschneider and Will Cooksey of the University of Michigan men’s tennis team opened the fall season at the Battle in the Bay Classic in San Francisco, Thursday through Sunday (Sept. 22-26) this week.

Cooksey split his four singles matches, winning his opening match over Max McKennon of Arizona State 7-5, 6-3 on Thursday (Sept. 22). He then knocked off No. 62-ranked Yuta Kikuchi (Cal) in three sets on Saturday (Sept. 24) 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. Ranked No. 54 in the preseason rankings, Ehrenschneider opened his season with a three-set win over No. 66 Lui Maxted (TCU). After dropping the first set 6-1, he rebounded with 7-5 and 6-2 sets.

Michigan returns to action next Friday through Sunday (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) at the MSU Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
