Duke Set to Host ITA Carolina Regional Championship


DURHAM – Duke men’s tennis hosts the 2022 ITA Carolina Regional Championship this weekend at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

More than 128 competitors and 23 schools will be in action as the tournament stretches from Friday through Tuesday.

Nine Blue Devils will compete this weekend in Andrew Dale, Michael Heller (doubles only), Garrett Johns (doubles only), Faris Khan, Connor Krug (singles only), Jake Krug, Pedro Rodenas, Niroop Vallabhaneni (doubles only), and Andrew Zhang.

Five of Duke’s six singles­ representatives were seeded on Thursday during the draw creation: Dale (17-32), Khan (17-32), C. Krug (17-32), Rodenas (2), and Zhang (7). In doubles action, three of the Blue Devils’ four pairs were seeded: Johns/Rodenas (2), Khan/Vallabhaneni (9-16), and Heller/Zhang (9-16).

 

Play will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and all players are guaranteed two singles matches throughout the day. The doubles portion of the event will begin on Saturday.

The singles and doubles winners from each of the ITA regionals advance to the 2022 ITA National Fall Championships, held Nov. 3-6, at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

Jake Krug (Duke) vs. Damien Salvestre (NCSU) – 9 a.m.

[7] Andrew Zhang (Duke) vs. Callum Rendle (WOF) – 12 p.m.

[17-32] Connor Krug (Duke) vs. Oliver Saarinen (NCCU) – 12 p.m.

[2] Pedro Rodenas (Duke) vs. Ian Rasheed (WOF) – 12 p.m.
