Duke Set to Face Princeton in Orlando on Wednesday


DURHAM – The Duke women’s tennis team will conclude its non-conference portion of its 2024 dual match slate on Wednesday, March 13 as the 24th-ranked Blue Devils (9-5) face 37th-ranked Princeton (8-3) in Orlando, Fla., at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus. 
 
The Series with Princeton
Duke and Princeton will face off for the 20th time in school history. The Blue Devils are 16-3 all-time in the series and have won their last 13 matches. In its latest matchup on Jan. 26, 2024, Duke managed to defeat Princeton, 4-0.
 
Scouting Princeton
Princeton owns an 8-3 record on the season, after defeating Penn State, 4-2, in its latest match. In the latest ITA rankings, the Tigers slot at No. 37 overall as a team. In doubles, the duo of Maia Sung and Isabella Chhiv are ranked (65).
 
Duke Versus the Ivy League
The Blue Devils own a 35-4 record versus the Ivy League Conference—Brown (2-0), Columbia (2-0), Dartmouth (1-0), Harvard (6-0), Penn (2-0), Princeton (16-3), Yale (7-1). Duke is on a current 28-match win streak versus Ivy League opponents.
 
Last Matchup
On Jan. 26 in Durham, the Blue Devils collected the doubles point as Karolina Berankova and Shavit Kimchi teamed to defeat Maia Sung and Bella Chhiv on court one, 6-3.  Duke’s Brianna Shvets and Iuliia Bryzgalova also won, 6-2, over Neha Velaga and Madeleine Jessup. In singles action, Duke received wins by Kimchi, Ellie Coleman and Shvets. 
 
Hey, I Know You
Duke graduate student Brianna Shvets will face her former squad this week for the second time as she was a four-year letterwinner at Princeton from 2018-22.  She tallied a 59-26 ledger in singles and 46-25 mark in doubles.  Shvets graduated from Princeton in May of 2022 with a degree in public policy and international affairs.  She is currently enrolled in the Daytime MBA program at Duke Fuqua School of Business.
 
Kimchi Named ACC Freshman of the Week
For the second time this season, Duke rookie Shavit Kimchi has been tabbed the ACC Freshman of the Week, which was announced March 12. 
 
Kimchi posted a 2-0 record on the week in singles, while leading the Blue Devils to a victory over 46th-ranked Clemson.  On Friday against the Tigers, Kimchi collected a 6-1, 7-5 win against Daniella Medvedeva to clinch the victory for the Blue Devils.  Kimchi has clinched five of the nine…
