Duke Falls at No. 16 NC State; Secures No. 4 Seed in ACC Tournament

RALEIGH – No 14 Duke men’s tennis dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 16 NC State on Sunday afternoon at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
 
With the outcome, the Blue Devils conclude their regular season with a 17-8 overall record and a 9-3 mark in ACC play. NC State improves to 17-5 and 10-2, respectively.
 
Duke now shifts its attention to the 2024 ACC men’s tennis championships. The Blue Devils have a double bye and will face the winner of the North Carolina vs. Boston College/Miami contest, which takes place on Thursday at 10 a.m. Duke’s quarterfinal contest is slated for Friday at 10 a.m. on Bank 2. All matches take place at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

How It Happened

  • The Wolfpack started doubles play with a victory on court three when Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek defeated Faris Khan and Connor Krug, 6-3. The Blue Devils answered when No. 3 Garrett Johns and Pedro Rodenas bested No. 72 Martin Borisiouk and Joseph Wayand, 6-4, on the top court. With the doubles point coming down to the outcome on court two, No. 65 Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli recorded a 6-3 victory over No. 56 Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang to give the home side an early 1-0 edge.
  • Khan tied the overall match up at 1-1 after he defeated Jakub Katuch on court six 6-2, 6-0 to begin singles action.
  • NC State jumped back in front, 2-1, when Damien Salvestre earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Alexander Visser on court five.
