Ducks Get by WSU, Win Third Straight

PULLMAN, Wash. – No. 41 Oregon picked up its third straight Pac-12 win Friday afternoon, earning a 5-2 win over Washington State at Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
 
Oregon (11-4, 4-1) picked up the doubles point in addition to four singles wins, two coming in three sets, to earn its fifth win over its last six matches overall. The Ducks start their conference slate 4-1 for the second time in three season.
 
The Ducks claimed the doubles point for the third straight match behind a 6-2 win at No. 2 by Jo-Yee Chan and Ares Teixido Garcia and a 6-3 triumph by Myah Petchey and Karin Young on court three. Petchey and Young picked up their third straight doubles win while Chan and Teixido Garcia improved to 11-1 this spring.
 
UO’s No 1 doubles tandem of Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral faced the nation’s 38th-ranked doubles team in Eva Alvarez Sande and Elyse Tse, but fell 6-2.
 
Martinez Moral handed UO a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-1 victory of Fifa Kumhom at No. 4. The Cougars evened the score at 1-1 after Teixido Garcia was forced to withdraw in the second set of her match with Yura Nakagawa on court two.
 
Martinez Moral leads the team with 11 singles wins this spring, boasting an 11-2 mark overall with an 8-1 record playing at the fourth spot in the lineup.
 
Petchey’s three-set win reclaimed the Oregon lead at 3-2 after WSU again leveled the match with Alvarez Sande’s win at No. 1 over Luescher, 6-2, 7-5 (5). Petchey collected her second straight victory and first three-set win of the spring.
