Ducks Earn First Road Win at UCSB, 4-3

Arizona

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – No. 55 Oregon collected its first road win of the spring season Sunday, taking down defending Big West champion UC Santa Barbara on its home court, 4-3, at the Arnhold Tennis Center.

The Ducks (7-3) earned the doubles point to go with singles wins at Nos. 4-6 to oust the Gauchos. UCSB, who has won four straight Big West titles and advanced to the second round of last year’s NCAA Tournament, played shorthanded as it was not able to field a No. 3 doubles team or field the No. 6 singles slot.

Playing with an early edge on the doubles side, Ares Teixido Garcia and Jo-Yee Chan were able to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead with a 6-2 win over Camille Kiss and Marte Gonzalez Ballbe on court two. The pair remained perfect in the dual season, improving their doubles record to 8-0.

Ducks’ top pair of Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral faced off against the nation’s No. 13 doubles tandem of Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter. Trailing 5-4 in the match and down 0-40, Luescher and Martinez Moral fought off three straight match points to even the set at 5-all, but Honer and Rueter stormed back to earn a 7-6 (9-7) victory.

Oregon has won the doubles point in all seven victories this season. Luescher and Martinez Moral suffered a loss for just the third time this season and snapped their four-match winning streak.
