CHAPEL HILL – The No. 2 ranked North Carolina women’s tennis team begins the dual match season this Friday, Jan. 13 by hosting Elon at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan 14 vs. Appalachian State on at 2 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to attend, as these matches will be played inside the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Carolina begins 2022 on a 54-match home winning streak having not taken a loss at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center since March 25, 2018.
Carolina has five ranked singles players on its roster – No. 1 Fiona Crawley, No. 5 Abby Forbes, No. 8 Carson Tanguilig, No. 18 Anika Yarlagadda, No. 48 Reilly Tran and No. 58 Elizabeth Scotty.
The doubles teams feature No. 1 Fiona Crawley / Carson Tanguilig and No. 16 Carson Tanguilig / Reilly Tran
Elon posted a 17-9 overall record in 2022 and reached the CAA Championship match last spring. The Phoenix return three all-conference selections, include first team standout Sibel Tanik.
Appalachian State is under the direction of third-year head coach Ashleigh Antal. The Mountaineers were 5-16 last year. Ksenia Aleshina earned first team All-Sun Belt singles honors as a junior last season.
The Tar Heels host another in-state doubleheader on Monday, Jan. 16 with East Carolina at 1 p.m.. and Campbell at 5:30 p.m. next week.
