NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s tennis welcomes No. 6 South Carolina (11-1, 1-0 SEC) and Alabama A&M (0-3) for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Commodores will face the Gamecocks at 11 a.m. and the Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m.
Conference Competition
Vanderbilt is 13-20 overall against South Carolina dating back to 1992. Last season, the Dores fell 6-1 to No. 10 South Carolina in Columbia. The most recent Vandy victory in the series came in 2018 against a No. 27 South Carolina on home turf by a score of 5-2.
The No. 6 Gamecock squad includes four nationally ranked singles players, two of whom are in the Top 10 (No. 6 Toby Samuel and No. 7 Connor Thomson). The team also has two nationally ranked doubles pairs, including the top-ranked Samuel/Thomson duo.
Against AAMU
For game two of the doubleheader, Vanderbilt will host Alabama A&M for the second year in a row. Last year’s contest saw the Dores top the Bulldogs 7-0. Saturday’s match will be only the second matchup between the two teams.
Home Match Notes
Saturday’s match will be at the Lummis Family Tennis Center, and admission is free. Fans must enter through the 25th Avenue entrance and abide by the university’s clear bag policy.
Elliston Place Soda Shop will be at Saturday’s match. The first $500 worth of food for fans will be covered by Vanderbilt’s tennis program. Alcohol will be available for purchase.
