NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s tennis welcomes No. 6 South Carolina (11-1, 1-0 SEC) and Alabama A&M (0-3) for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Commodores will face the Gamecocks at 11 a.m. and the Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m.
Vanderbilt is 13-20 overall against South Carolina dating back to 1992. Last season, the Dores fell 6-1 to No. 10 South Carolina in Columbia. The most recent Vandy victory in the series came in 2018 against a No. 27 South Carolina on home turf by a score of 5-2.
The No. 6 Gamecock squad includes four nationally ranked singles players, two of whom are in the Top 10 (No. 6 Toby Samuel and No. 7 Connor Thomson). The team also has two nationally ranked doubles pairs, including the top-ranked Samuel/Thomson duo.
For game two of the doubleheader, Vanderbilt will host Alabama A&M for the second year in a row. Last year’s contest saw the Dores top the Bulldogs 7-0. Saturday’s match will be only the second matchup between the two teams.
