GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Sebastian Dominko was named Atlantic Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week after his strong showing last weekend that saw him go 2-0 in singles competition. It’s the first Player of the Week award for the Fighting Irish this season, and second weekly award. Dominko and teammate Connor Fu previously won Doubles Team of the Week.
Dominko won his first match of the day last Saturday against Jared Pratt of Wisconsin. After being broken in the opening game and going down 2-0, the Irish freshman responded by taking 12 of the next 15 games to win the match 6-4, 6-1. Later that day, he came out with an even more dominating 6-0, 6-1 win over Aleksa Bucan of UIC who was preseason ranked #69 in the country in singles. Dominko now has a spring singles record of 6-2 on the year, all at the #1 position.His singles performance last weekend comes along with two doubles wins with partner Connor Fu. They beat the #21 ranked team in the country from Wisconsin before beating UIC. Together, the duo have a 9-1 record on the year and all those matches come at the highest position in the lineup. Dominko and Fu were ACC Doubles Team of the Week the week of January 31st.
Dominko and the Fighting Irish are back in action this weekend as they host Michigan Thursday night at Eck Tennis Pavilion. Notre Dame hits the road this weekend for a matchup at Ohio State on Saturday, Feb. 25th.
