SEATTLE – Two final home matches wrap up the regular season for the Husky men’s tennis team this week. 17th-ranked Stanford comes in on Friday, Apr. 21, for a 3 p.m. battle, then on Sunday at 12 noon the Huskies host 28th-ranked California. The matches will be played at either Bill Quillian Stadium or the Nordstrom Tennis Center depending on weather.

Fans attending Friday’s match against the Cardinal can enter to win a Husky Football jersey, and can pick up rally towels.

Washington, ranked No. 56 this week, knows it needs some wins to get its ranking up into potential NCAA tournament qualifying range. The home matches this week provide two huge chances, as will next week’s Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif. The Dawgs are looking for a postseason push after an 0-4 road trip to the Arizona and L.A. schools dropped their record to 10-10 on the season, and 1-5 in conference play.

Cesar Bouchelaghem comes in at No. 124 in the singles rankings this week, and looks to start a new streak after he suffered his first and only dual match loss at USC last week. He and Dzianis Zharyn are also ranked 65th in doubles.

The Cardinal are 13-7 on the season and 4-2 in Pac-12 play, having just earned a 4-3 rivalry win over the Bears in Stanford. Stanford also had a big 4-3 win at home over then-No. 15 Arizona, and beat UCLA at home. Its losses came at home to then-No. 10 USC and on the road at Utah. Against Cal, Stanford won a tight doubles point that came down to a tiebreak, and then won the top three singles courts, losing the bottom three. In the rankings, Arthur Fery is ranked No. 3 in the nation, Nishesh Basavareddy is No. 12, Max Basing is ranked 22nd, and Samir Banerjee is ranked 54th. In doubles, Basavareddy and Fery are No. 22.

The Bears are 11-8 on the season and 3-3 in conference play, coming off the tough 3-4 loss at Stanford, but the prior week Cal swept the L.A. schools at home, getting a big 4-3 win over USC. Cal will stop at Oregon before heading to Seattle. The Bears also had close 4-3 losses at Arizona and at Pepperdine. Yuta Kikuchi leads the Bears and is ranked 30th in singles. In doubles, Ryder Jackson and Lucas Magnaudet are ranked…
