Current and Former Tar Heels Set For 2023 US Open

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina senior Fiona Crawley and former Tar Heel Makenna Jones have each received wild card berths for the 2023 US Open Singles Qualifying Tournament announced today by the United States Tennis Association.

Crawley, the 2023 ITA National Player of the Year and ACC Player of the Year will compete in both the singles and doubles portion of the US Open. She ended the 2023 season ranked No. 1 in singles after she led all Division I players in singles victories (46). After the conclusion of the season, Crawley was named an ITA All-American and was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team.

Jones, a five year member of the North Carolina tennis program, will also be representing the Tar Heels in the tournament. During her time in Chapel Hill, she was a four-time ITA All-America selection and is tied for eighth at UNC with 115 career singles victories. She was a member of three ITA National Team Indoor Championships and won the 2021 NCAA Doubles National Championship. This past year, Jones has won nine (2 singles; 7 doubles) ITF World Tennis Tour titles.

In addition to the singles competition, Crawley and doubles partner Carson Tanguilig will compete in the US Open doubles tournament as a main draw wild card team after winning the 2023 NCAA Doubles Championship earlier this year.

The 2023 US Open runs from Tuesday, Aug. 22, through Sunday, Sept. 10.
