Cougars Start Road Swing With 5-2 Win over Idaho State


BOISE, Idaho – Washington State Tennis began its five-match stretch away from Pullman with a convincing 5-2 victory over Idaho State Friday at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center on the Boise State campus. With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-0 on the season.
 
The Cougars began the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the opening point. At No. 1, the Cougar duo of Eva Alvarez Sande and Elyse Tse improved to 3-0 in dual matches this season with a 6-3 win over Lola O’Lindeadha and Sol O’Lindeadha. At No. 2, WSU’s Yura Nakagawa and Fifa Kumhom cruised to a 6-2 win over Asem Shoybek and Stefanya Shalakhova while the Cougar pair of Hania Abouelsaad and Martina Markov needed a tiebreaker to get past Hana Coy and Sydney Morris, 7-6 (9-7).
 
In singles action, WSU captured the first three completed matches to secure the team victory. Abouelsaad had little troubles defeating Olivea Mikkelson 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 while Alvarez Sande rode a few service breaks to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Cho at No. 1. Tse, at No. 4, also posted a straight-set win, defeating Lola O’Lindeadha 6-2, 7-5.
 
WSU’s final win came at No. 2 where Nakagawa needed three sets to defeat Shoybek, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Idaho State recorded two singles wins as Sol O’Lindeadha posted a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) win over Kumhom at No. 3 while Megan Lang-Gold defeated Markova at No. 6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Washington State is next in action Saturday when it faces Boise State in Boise. Match time is set for 10 a.m. PT.
