Cougars Conclude Play at Hawaii Invitational


HONOLULU (January 7, 2023) – Washington State Tennis collected three singles and two doubles victories as the Cougars completed the final day of play at the 2023 Weinman Foundation Invitational Saturday, played at the University of Hawaii Tennis Courts.
 
In Saturday’s hidden dual format, the Cougars faced No. 14 USC and Hawaii in both singles and doubles matches. In singles play, WSU’s Fifa Kumhom posted a straight-set win over USC’s Isabelle Lee while teammate Elyse Tse rallied from a set down to defeat USC’s Sloane Morra, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Stefaniia Mikhailova also needed three sets to defeat Hawaii’s Anna Kern, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
 
In doubles action, WSU’s Maxine Murphy and Eva Alvarez Sande defeated USC’s Naomi Cheong and Morra, 6-3, while Mikhailova and Hania Abouelsaad defeated Hawaii’s Kern and Kaitlyn Ralar, 6-4.
 
WSU is next in action Friday when it opens its dual match season by hosting Montana at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
