Colorado Set For Pac-12 Championships

BOULDER – The brackets have been set and the Colorado women’s tennis program will head to Ojai, Calif., this Wednesday to take on Oregon at 4 p.m. MT for the first round of the 2022 Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Championships.

The Buffaloes (8-13, 1-9 Pac-12) enter the tournament as the 11th seed and take on the sixth-seeded and No.38-ranked Ducks (14-7, 5-5 Pac-12).

Oregon’s last win was actually against Colorado April 3rd in Boulder in a 4-1 score. Since then, Oregon is 0-2 with a pair of 4-0 sweeps against the LA schools. Colorado went 2-2 since that matchup with wins against No.67 Denver and No.49 Arizona.

Since switching to a dual format in 2017, the Buffs are 0-4 in the Pac-12 Tournament with a pair of losses to Washington and Washington State. CU will look to win its first conference dual behind Megan Forster, Caroline Pozo and Betina Tokac who all have four wins in their last 10 singles matches. Close behind is Antonia Balzert with three.

Tokac, who has won two straight singles matches, was the lone victor in the regular season matchup with the Ducks. She defeated Misaki Kobayashi in the No.6 singles match 6-2, 6-1. The Buffs had their opportunities wit Maria Campos leading in a second set tiebreaker when the match was decided and Pozo in a close match in the No.2 singles match.

The doubles point was also closely contested against Oregon with Pozo and Campos falling 7-5 in the No.1 singles match while Ky Ecton and Mila Stanojevic were down 6-5. The Buffs will try to flip that point their way to win their first doubles point in the tournament’s short history.

The winner of the matchup will face the third-seeded Stanford Thursday at 7 p.m. MT. The women’s tournament will be held at the Ojia Valley Tennis Club before shifting to Libbey Park for the championship Saturday. Saturday’s championship will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
