SEATTLE, Wash. – The fourth-ranked Duke women’s tennis team rebounded in a big way on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Indoor Championship as the Blue Devils (9-1) defeated sixth-ranked Stanford, 4-3, at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash.
How It Happened
• After dropping the doubles point for the first time this season on Friday against Oklahoma, the Blue Devils came out like a different team in Saturday’s contest against Stanford.
• On court three, Duke’s Emma Jackson and Iuliia Bryzgalova suffered their first dual match loss a day ago, but were impressive versus the Cardinal’s team of Sara Choy and Connie Ma. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 5-0 lead and got off the court quickly with a 6-1 victory.
• After dropping the first point on court two, Duke’s No. 25 ranked Ellie Coleman and Karolina Berankova won three out of the next four points to take a 3-2 lead. Leading 4-3, Coleman/Berankova would win two straight points to clinch the crucial doubles point for Duke.
• Duke’s 14th-ranked Chloe Beck and Cameron Morra were leading Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina, 4-3, when the point was clinched.
• In singles play, Stanford won the first set on four of the six courts, but Duke was able go ahead, 2-0, with a victory on court six. Bryzgalova never trailed against Choy totaling a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
• In the featured singles matchup with two top-five ranked players, Duke’s No. 5 Beck never trailed against third-ranked Ma and notched a 6-4, 6-3 win to put the Blue Devils ahead, 3-0.
• The rest of the singles matches went to three sets, after Stanford won the first set on all four courts. Duke came back to win the second set on all six courts to help extend the match.
• With the Blue Devils leading, 3-0, Stanford was able to even the match with three straight wins.
• The Cardinal’s 56th-ranked Blokhina registered a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 win over Georgia Drummy on court four and Blake posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over No. 21 Jackson on court three.
• On court two, Duke’s No. 28 ranked Morra battled back after dropping the first set, 6-2, to win the second, 6-3, against No. 41 ranked Yepifanova. Morra led, 5-3, late in the third set and had three match points, but…
