Down 2-4 in the decisive set, Elisabetta Cocciaretto was in no mood for runner-up status.

It was Cocciaretto’s fourth three-set win in five tournament victories on the red clay of Lausanne.

The 22-year-old Italian converted five of eight break-point chances in a two hour 43-minute victory.

“I’m super happy to win this title,” Cocciaretto said. “It’s unexpected to me because I came here without expectations, but I’m really, really happy about it. It was an incredible week, a tough week, because I stayed on the court a lot, I fight a lot.

“Playing five matches here, it’s great. Also, it gives me the motivation to improve. I will go home to rest and take care of my body, because it was really tough this week, and then start to prepare for the season. Every day I’m improving myself outside and inside the court.”

Completing this maiden title run Cocciaretto climbs to a new career-high ranking of No. 30 in the live rankings.

Cocciaretto is the Italian No. 1 ahead of No. 47 Jasmine Paolini and No. 50 Camila Giorgi.

Burel rises to a new career-high ranking of No. 61.
