EUGENE, Ore. – The Arizona women’s tennis team secured its first win of conference play on Sunday, defeating Oregon 4-2.

The Cats got the first two wins of doubles play to win the team point. Reece Carter and Brandelyn Fulgenzi defeated Tilde Jaguar and Uxia Martinez Moral, 6-2, to put Arizona in a position to clinch doubles.

Belen Nevenhoven and Martyna Ostrzegalo defeated Jo-Yee Chan and Sophie Luescher, 7-5, to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead going into singles play.

Fulgenzi was the first player with a singles win, getting a straight-set win over Karin Young 6-4, 6-3. Kayla Wilkins put the Cats one away from clinching with her 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Nina Geissler, but Oregon was able to get a pair of wins on courts six and three to make the team score 3-2.

No. 98 Carter secured the win, gutting out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over Luescher.

Arizona is back in action Friday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m. as it welcomes Washington to the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
