San Francisco, Calif. – The Wildcats concluded day two at Battle in the Bay and began action at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. Arizona secured seven wins between both tournaments on Friday.
At Battle in the Bay Colton Smith and Herman Hoeyeraal moved onto the quarterfinals to face Alex Chang and Carl Emil Overbeck from Berkeley. The duo dominated the court advancing to the semifinals with a final score of 8-6.
No. 23 Smith continues to chart singles victories as he put up two straight-set wins during the day. His first win of the day was a 6-1, 7-6(0) victory against Glanluca Brunkow of (UCSB). He followed up with a ranked victory against No. 43 Sebastian Gorzny (TCU) to advance to the semifinals.
In Texas, Gustaf Strom, Nick Lagaev, Casper Christensen, and Sasha Rozin took down members of the Georgia squad, capturing four wins to start off their weekend. No. 50 Strom defeated Thomas Paulsell 6-4, 6-0, No. 92 Lagaev defeated Niels Ratiu 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-3, Christensen defeated Davis Taylor 6-4, 6-4, and Rozin defeated Parker Mariencheck 6-3, 6-3.
Arizona will continue play tomorrow, Sept. 23 at both tournaments.
