TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona remains undefeated after day two of the Wildcat Invite, taking home nine more victories.
Home at LaNelle
First to win today was freshman Filip Gustafsson and sophomore Alexander Rozin on court one with a 6-2 victory over Spiers/Kleber of SDSU. Following close behind was freshmen Santiago Padilla-Cote and Matthias Kask on three with a 6-1 domination over Volesky/Katsuda of NAU. Wrapping doubles for the Cats was Cole Stelse and Iñaki Cabrera-Bello with a 6-3 win over Rsovac/Navarro of UNLV.
Facing Valesky in singles now, Kask took the first singles win of the day with a 6-0, 6-4 straight set win. Second to finish was court two, where Padilla-Cote came out on top over Rosati of GCU in three: 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. After dropping the first set in a breaker, Cabrera-Bello came back to secure the Cats’ third singles win with a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3 victory over Navarro (UNLV).
Rozin completed his match in two swift sets, winning 6-2, 6-0 over Katsuda (NAU). On court one, Gustafsson did the same with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Branchetti of Gonzaga. Rounding out singles for Arizona today was Stelse – who went into a 13 point tiebreaker in his first set – winning 7-6(11), 6-2 over Kakhniuk of UNM.
The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 15, at 8:30 a.m. for the final day of the invitational.
In the Bay
After winning in quarterfinals Friday, Jay Friend fell to #39 Maxted of TCU 4-6, 4-6.
Friend will compete in the consolation final tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against Glanluca Brunkow of UCSB.
