Cardinal Downs Pepperdine at Taube


STANFORD, Calif. – No. 17 Stanford men’s tennis returned home in winning fashion, defeating Pepperdine at Taube Family Tennis Center, 6-1. The Cardinal improves to 3-3 over the early portion of the season.

Stanford trailed early after doubles, falling by 6-4 scores on courts one and two, but rebounded to win six consecutive singles bouts. Hudson Rivera tied the score, 1-1, with a straight set win on court five, and was followed minutes later by Filip Kolasinski on court six to give the Cardinal the lead, 6-2, 6-3.

Samir Banerjee added his team-leading ninth win of the season on court two, outlasting his opponent in a tiebreaking second set, 6-2, 7-6 (3). Max Basing clinched the match on court five, breaking his opponent to close it out, 6-3, 7-5.

Nishesh Basavareddy added a ranked win in three sets in the top position, including a 6-0 win in the final set, helping Stanford stay unbeaten this season at No. 1 singles, while Kyle Kang closed with a win on court four, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2

Stanford sees a quick turnaround to a Saturday, Feb. 10 battle with Sacramento State. The action begins at 1 p.m.
