Lucas Magnaudet and most of the Bears will compete at ITA regionals this week.
BERKELEY – For the second consecutive season, California is hosting the ITA Northwest Regional Championships at the Hellman Tennis Complex and the Channing Tennis Courts, with the tournament running from Friday through Sunday. The event is one of two sets of northwest regionals taking place this week, with Washington hosting a tournament in Seattle as well. Seven Bears – Alex Aney, Jonathan Irwanto, John Kim, Lucas Magnaudet, Ethan Schiffman, Tim Stepanov and Mikey Wright – will compete with players from the region for singles and doubles titles, with the doubles champs and singles finalists qualifying for the ITA Northwest Super Regional Championships.
Admission is free at both Hellman and Channing, with matches starting at 9 a.m. PT each day.
The regional tournament at Cal includes players from UC Davis, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Stanford along with the Bears. One Bear who will not be playing at regionals is Carl Emil Overbeck, who is still playing in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
