Busy Bears Host USF, Play In Davis

BERKELEY – The No. 29 California men’s tennis team will enjoy a busy Saturday after not competing last week, with the 4-2 Golden Bears hosting San Francisco (1-4) at 9:30 a.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex and playing at UC Davis (4-3) at 3 p.m. at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
 
Cal’s match vs. USF was rescheduled to Saturday from its original date of Feb. 2.
 
Admission is free for regular-season home tennis at Hellman. Fans can watch home matches through the Hellman live stream by clicking here and can also keep track of the Bears on the team’s Twitter @CalMensTennis. Live scores and a live stream are not available for the Davis match, so stay tuned to the team’s Twitter for updates.
 
Bears Bash Tigers 6-1
Cal last played on Feb. 2, when the Bears defeated Pacific, 6-1, at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Yuta Kikuchi clinched the victory when he beat Peter Alam, 6-1, 6-4, at court-one singles. Kikuchi also teamed with Philip Hjorth – a former Tiger – to secure the doubles point. The pair posted a 6-3 victory over Ran Amar and Terence Das on court two to give Cal a 1-0 lead.
 
The Bears have won two straight matches, including a 4-2 victory over Florida Atlantic in the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 29 in Austin, Texas.
 
Poll Position
Cal is ranked 29th in Tuesday’s ITA Coaches Poll. In Tuesday’s ITA singles poll, Ryder Jackson (14-7 record) is ranked 101st and Yuta Kikuchi (5-3) is ranked 106th. The doubles pair of Kikuchi and Carl Emil Overbeck (4-0) is ranked 58th.
 
Scouting the Bears

  • Cal holds a 37-7 advantage in its all-time series with San Francisco, including a 4-0 win over the Dons in their last meeting in 2020
  • The Bears has an 11-0 all-time record against UC Davis, including a 6-1 win over the Aggies in their last match in 2016
