BATON ROUGE, La. – Mississippi State women’s tennis fell on the road at No. 52 LSU 6-1 on Friday afternoon.
The bright spot for the Bulldogs came as Alexandra Mikhailuk scored a win over Nina Geissler 5-7, 7-5, 12-10. It marked Mikhailuk’s first SEC victory of the season.
No. 104 Emmanouela Antonaki and Gia Cohen fought valiantly but came up short after three sets. Antonaki dropped a decision to 22nd-ranked Anastaysia Komar from the No. 1 position 6-4, 3-6, 5-7 while Cohen lost 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 to 31st-ranked Kylie Collins.
Maria Rizzolo fought back and forth with Tiger Nikita Vishwase in both sets but Vishwase came out on top 7-6(1), 7-5.
Dharani Niroshan and Emily Surcey also fell to their opponents. Niroshan was defeated 6-2, 6-4 by Safiya Carrington and Surcey fell to Mia Rabinowitz 7-5, 6-3.
The Tigers earned the doubles point earlier in the afternoon, but not without the Bulldogs claiming one court. Cohen and Maddie Bemisderfer earned 6-3 victory over the 72nd-ranked tandem of Carrington and Noor Carrington. The win marked their second win of the year as a doubles paring.
The tandem of Antonaki and Niroshan lost to the seventh-ranked duo of Collins and Komar while the Tiger pairing of Geissler and Vishwase clinched the point over Mikhailuk and Sydney Hrehor 6-4.
The Bulldogs hit the road to College Station, Texas to take on No. 2 Texas A&M on Sunday, April 9 at noon.
