Bulldogs Host No. 18 Vanderbilt On Sunday


STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women’s tennis host No. 18 Vanderbilt on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play.

The match will mark the 47th matchup between the two teams. No. 69 Mississippi State will attempt to snap a four-match losing skid to Vanderbilt and earn its first victory in the series since 2018.

Several Mississippi State players are riding hot streaks in singles entering Sunday’s match. Gia Cohen has won four straight matches, while Dharani Niroshan has earned three straight.

Cohen and Niroshan both earned victories against Kentucky in the Bulldogs SEC opener. Cohen took down Wildcat Elizabeth Stevens 6-2, 6-4, while Niroshan defeated Makayla Mills 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. 

Vanderbilt is currently 7-3 overall, having downed Ole Miss 5-2 in Oxford, Mississippi for their SEC opener on Friday.  

The Commodores’ lineup features several ranked players. Célia-Belle Mohr (45), Bridget Stammel (53), Anna Ross (65), Holly Staff (96), and Anessa Lee (98) make up the ranked players in singles.

Additionally, the duo of Lee and Mohr are ranked 58th in the country in doubles.

Free tacos will be given out to the first 50 fans during Sunday’s match.
