STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women’s tennis will close out its eleven-match homestand with a Friday doubleheader against Belmont and Alabama A&M.
The opening match against Belmont is slated to start at 11 a.m. and the next match against Alabama A&M begins at 3 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
The Bulldogs are off to an 8-1 start to the season following a doubleheader sweep of Memphis (4-1) and Jackson State (7-0) this past Sunday.
During the sweep, Emmanouela Antonaki claimed her 92nd career singles win to pass Georgiana Patrasc (2013-16), which is first in Mississippi State history.
No. 77 Maria Rizzolo comes into Friday’s match having 12 singles victories dating back to the fall. Emily Surcey continues to succeed in Maroon and White, having earned six singles wins this season and won both her matches last Sunday.
Chloé Cirotte is 8-1 in dual match play to lead head coach Daryl Greenan‘s squad.
This match will mark the first time Mississippi State and Belmont have ever played each other.
State is 2-0 all-time against Alabama A&M. The Bulldogs won the previous match 7-0 at home on March 15, 2015.
Belmont enters Friday’s action with a 2-3 record after a shutout loss against ETSU on Feb. 4 and fell to Western Kentucky on Feb. 5.
Alabama A&M comes to Starkville with a 1-2 record after dropping a match to Mercer 6-1 on Jan. 28.
