Mississippi State finished out its fall slate on a high note by winning two titles on Sunday.
No. 68 Petar Jovanovic won the singles consolation backet at the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego. Meanwhile across the country in Atlanta, Marshall Landry and Nemanja Malesevic were named the doubles champions at the GT Fall Invite.
Jovanovic sealed his championship after topping Leo Raquin of Middle Tennessee in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Jovanovic joins Nuno Borges as the only Bulldogs to take away hardware from the ITA National Fall Championships. Borges claimed the overall singles’ title at the event in 2017.
Jovanovic posted a 4-1 singles record during the tournament, including a pair of top 20 victories.
Landry and Malesevic achieved a perfect 3-0 doubles record during their time at the GT Fall Invite. The MSU duo earned their third victory on Sunday as they downed Liberty’s Thando Longwe-Smit and Marques Da Silva 8-4.
Landry and Malesevic are the first Bulldogs to claim a title at the GT Fall Invite since Florian Broska won the 2021 singles championship.
Landry also secured a singles win as well, rallying back against Liberty’s Ernst Gouws 6-7(8), 6-2, 6-0. State’s lone loss of the day was a 6-3, 7-6(2) setback by No. 46 Malesevic to Marques Da Silva.
State will now start preparing for dual match play beginning in January. Matt Roberts‘ Bulldogs have reached the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships in four of the last five years.
