SAN FRANCISCO – A trio of Colorado Buffaloes Tennis players earned All-Pac-12 honors, with Antonia Balzert being named to the second team and Aya El Sayed and Betina Tokac picking up honorable mention nods, the league office announced Thursday.
Balzet is just the second Buff to earn above honorable mention on an All-Pac-12 team, joining Nuria Ormeno Ruiz in 2017. This is also the first time three Buffs have made mention on any All-Pac-12 team.
Balzert has played No. 1 singles in every dual match for the Buffaloes this season and compiled a 17-15 overall record and 10-10 mark in dual matches, including three wins over Pac-12 foes, including a thrilling third-set tiebreaker victory over No. 97 Hikaru Sato that enabled the Buffs to defeat No. 16 Washington on April 9.
El Sayed has put together a record-breaking season to date with an amazing 14-1 record in dual matches including a perfect 5-0 mark in Pac-12 play, just the third undefeated conference season with at least five decisions in CU history. Overall she was 21-9 in singles action.
Balzert and El Sayed teamed up at No. 1 doubles for the Buffs and have a 12-17 record overall including 7-12 record in dual matches.
Tokac has a 12-7 record overall this season in singles and is 9-6 in dual matches with a pair of wins over Pac-12 opponents. She also teamed with Ellen Puzak in doubles and the duo has put together a 10-16 overall record and 8-14 mark in dual matches.
The three players were integral in the Buffs earning the program’s first postseason nod in 16 years with an invitation to the Inaugural NIT, hosted by Universal Tennis. One of eight teams invited, the Buffs will head to Atlanta, Ga., from May 17-20 to take part with all matches streamed live on Amazon Prime.
