Buffs Fall At No. 35 UCLA, 4-0


LOS ANGELES – The Colorado Buffaloes Tennis team fell to No. 31 UCLA 4-0 here Friday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Buffs fall to 9-7 and 0-4 in Pac-12 conference play after being swept in both doubles and singles action by the Bruins.

How it Happened

  • The afternoon started at No. 1 doubles with a 6-0 victory from the No. 6 doubles duo in the nation of Kimmi Hance and Elise Wagle over Antonia Balzert and Aya El Sayed.
  • The Bruins clinched the doubles point with a win at No. 3 doubles by Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and Fangran Tian over Ellen Puzak and Betina Tokac 6-4.
  • No. 2 doubles between Colorado’s Mila Stanojevic and Elys Ventura and UCLA’s Ava Catanzarite and Sasha Vagramov was unfinished with a score of 5-4.
  • The Bruins maintained control of the match at the start of singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 win from Sasha Vagramov at No. 5 singles over Betina Tokac
  • UCLA continued to extend the lead at No. 1 singles behind the No. 23 ranked singles player Fangran Tian defeating Antonia Balzert 6-1, 6-3.
  • Kimmi Hance, the 78th ranked singles player, clinched the match for the Bruins defeating Elys Ventura at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2.
  • No.3 singles between Mila Stanojevic and No. 87 Ava Catanzarite was unfinished in the second set with a score of 3-6, 4-4.
  • At No. 4 singles between Aya El Sayed and Elise Wagle was unfinished in the second set with a score of 5-7, 1-2.
  • No. 6 singles provided some fireworks at the match even without a final result. Carri Hayes came back from down 5-1 in the first set against Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer to win 7-5 stringing together six straight games with multiple set points. Hayes would go in to take a 3-2 lead in the second set before UCLA clinched the overall match leaving No. 6 singles unfinished.

The Buffs are back in action Saturday as they finish up their four-match road trip against No. 35 USC at 1:30 p.m. MST. CU will travel back home to host two home matches next week starting with Washington State Friday, April 7 followed by Washington on Sunday, April 9.
