Buckeyes in North Carolina for Fall Ranked Spotlight – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four members of the Ohio State women’s tennis team are in North Carolina for the Fall Ranked Spotlight hosted by North Carolina State. The tournament includes doubles matches Thursday evening and Sunday morning, with singles play Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Competing this weekend for the Buckeyes are senior Irina Cantos Siemers, sophomore Sydni Ratliff, fifth year Kolie Allen and senior Lucia Marzal. Cantos Siemers/Ratliff and Allen/Marzal will pair up in doubles.

Doubles Thursday will be held at NC State’s courts in Raleigh, N.C., with the rest of the event at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Singles will feature two 32-player compass draws, with each player slated for five matches. Doubles teams will play two matches Thursday evening and one match Sunday, with no draw. Ohio State’s doubles teams will begin play at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

Cantos Siemers is the No. 6 seed in the A-1 draw and Ratliff is also in the A-1 draw. Allen and Marzal are in the A-2 draw.

Ohio State is joined in the tournament by players from Arizona State, Auburn, Duke, ETSU, Kansas, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, Oklahoma, Princeton, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCF, USC and Virginia.

Buckeye This and That

  • Last year, Sydni Ratliff, Irina Cantos Siemers and Lucia Marzal competed in the Fall Ranked Spotlight. Ratliff was 3-1 in singles and finished as the B Draw runner-up and Cantos Siemers and Marzal were both 3-2. In doubles, Cantos Siemers and Ratliff were 2-1 and were the runner-up in their group, while Marzal paired with Luna Dormet to post a 2-1 mark.
  • The fall slate opened for the Buckeyes last weekend with Madeline Atway, Shelly Bereznyak, Kathleen Jones and Dani Schoenly competing in the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic.
  • Ohio State had four singles players and two doubles teams listed in the first ITA rankings of the season. In singles, Cantos Siemers was 10th, with Isabelle Boulais No. 37, Ratliff No. 51 and Akanksha Bhan No. 87. Cantos Siemers and Ratliff were 24th in doubles, with Boulais and Kolie Allen No. 32.
  • The Buckeyes are the defending Big Ten regular season champion and were 21-6 overall last season, hosting NCAA Tournament matches and finishing the year ranked 15th. The squad returns nine players from last year’s roster and has added three standouts, with two graduate transfers and a freshman.
