Broska Begins NCAA Singles Championship

URBANA, Ill., – No. 17 Florian Broska is representing Mississippi State at the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship this week at the Atkins Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Illinois.

Broska received an at large bid and will take on seventh-ranked Stefan Dostanic of USC on Monday at 2 p.m.

Broska is making his second straight appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship. Last year the Eitelborn, Germany native reached the second round by beating Henri Squire of Wake Forest in straight sets.

Broska is the 18th Bulldog in program history to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship multiples times during their career.

Broska, who recently received his master’s degree in information technology, was a first team All-SEC selection this spring. He tied for the team lead with 21 victories this season, seven of which came over ranked opponents.

Broska’s 97 career singles wins matches Matthieu Ballay (1996-99) for the sixth-most in MSU history. His 167 overall victories are also tied for eighth all-time in school history with Romain Ambert (2001-04).

Dostanic has already earned All-American honors this season and also won Pac-12 Player of the Year. The junior from Irvine, California is 36-5 on the year and has only lost once during dual-match play.

Dostanic saw his 19-match winning streak snapped in the Round of 16 with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss to No. 9 Cannon Kingsley of Ohio State on May 14.

Dostanic is also one-half of the No. 7 doubles tandem in the country alongside Bradley Frye and will be competing in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Tuesday.
