The Pac-12 Conference announced the post season awards for 2023 and head coach Roeland Brateanu was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year while Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman were named First Team All-Conference and Francisco Bastias was named Second Team All-Conference.
This is the first time since joining the Pac-12 Utah has had anyone placed on the First Team All-Conference list and the first time Brateanu has earned Coach of the Year.
Brateanu has led the Utes to one of the most successful seasons in school history. Utah has claimed a share of the Pac-12 Regular Season Title for the first time with a 6-2 Pac-12 Record. The Utes have posted a 23-5 overall record. Utah made it’s first appearance in the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals and finals. The Utes have also been ranked in the top 20 for three consecutive weeks.
Capalbo has posted a 17-6 record overall on the season. He had 10 wins at the No. 2 spot in the lineup and six wins at No. 1. He was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on March 21. He started the season undefeated with a 15-0. He and doubles partner Espin Busleiman posted a 16-7 record all at the No. 2 spot.
Espin Busleiman has an 18-4 overall record on the season. He had 12 wins at No. 1 in the lineup and six wins at No. 2. He had a streak of 10 consecutive wins. He and Capalbo posted a 16-7 record all at the No. 2 doubles spot.
Bastias posted a 17-7 overall record with 16 coming at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. He had a streak of eight consecutive wins. He and partner Bruno Caula posted a 17-5 record all at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Utah is set to take on Old Dominion in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in the Chapel Hill Regional Saturday, May 6 at 8 a.m. (MT).
