Bowers, Meister off to Fighting Irish Invite


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois senior Nic Meister and freshman Tyler Bowers will be heading to Notre Dame, Ind., for the Fighting Irish Invite from Oct. 28 – Oct. 30, hosted by Notre Dame. 

Both Meister and Bowers are coming off competitions in the ITA Midwest Regionals Championship last weekend, Bowers making it to the round of 16 in the qualifiers before bowing out to DePaul’s Shourya Verma, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.  Meister made it to the round of 32 in the main draw, but ultimately fell to Toledo’s Pawit Sornlaksup, 6-1, 6-2. 

The pair will also be doubles partners in Notre Dame after advancing to the round of 16 together at the ITA Midwest Regionals. 

The Notre Dame Invite will be played in a mini dual format where athletes play each other in doubles, then play the same opponent in singles. 

Meister and Bowers will take on Western Michigan’s Arjun Honnappa/Brogan Pierce on the first day of the invite. 

Schools participating include: Notre Dame, Northwestern, Michigan State, Indiana, Louisville, Western Michigan and DePaul.
