Boilermakers Fight To The End

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women’s tennis fought until the very end against Nebraska, but came up short to finish the season in the first round of the Big Ten tournament.

Kennedy Gibbs tied up the match at 3-3 with her singles win at No. 4. The freshman battled to take her match to the third set after dropping the second. Gibbs defeated Raphaelle Lacasse from Nebraska 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to log her 15th singles win this spring.

After dropping the doubles point, the Boilermakers were put on the board with a quick win from sophomore Carmen Gallardo Guevara. At No. 3, Gallardo Guevara flew through her singles match. The Spaniard only dropped one set in her path to victory and earned her commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over Ana Zamburek from Nebraska.

Redshirt senior Liz Norman rounded out the Boiler’s points today with her win at No. 1. The Terre Haute native also came out ready to play and to play fast. Norman’s 6-1, 6-4 singles win against Nebraska’s Isabel Adrover Gallego briefly put the Boilermakers in the lead. Norman spent her last year of eligibility with the Boilermakers and logged 19 career singles wins, 12 doubles wins and earned a spot on the All Big Ten team. She also spent the entire spring season in both the No.1 doubles and No. 1 singles spots.

Senior Csilla Fodor fought valiantly to the end of her match. Fodor lost to Samantha Alicea of Nebraska 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.

The Boilermakers end the season with their most victories since 2013. With seven straight wins to start the season, Purdue had its longest win streak since 2015.
