Blue Devils Return to Chapel Hill for ITA Sectionals

DURHAM, N.C. – Six members of the Duke women’s tennis team head to Chapel Hill in search of an NCAA Championship bid this week as the Blue Devils compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Sectional Championship.  It will take place at the Chewning Tennis Center on the campus of North Carolina from Nov. 7-10.

Teams from the Atlantic, Carolina, New England and Northeast regionals will convene together this weekend for the final chance to play for a NCAA singles and doubles selection.  Other sectional sites this weekend include Central (hosted by TCU), South (Florida State) and West (Pepperdine).

Duke will feature four singles – Katie Codd, Shavit Kimchi, Ellie Coleman and Emma Jackson – competing in singles action.  Kimchi is seeded No. 4, while Jackson and Coleman are No. 5.

In doubles play, Irina Balus will team with Coleman, while Jackson is set to play with Eleana Yu.  Jackson/Yu earned the top seed, while Balus/Coleman are seeded No. 3.

Balus and Yu advanced to the finals of the ITA Regionals recently and have already secured a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship, which is scheduled for Nov. 18-24.

The 2024 ITA Sectional Championships will have a draw size of 32 for singles and 16 for doubles. From this, six singles players from each section (24 in all) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists, two quarterfinal playoff winners). Meanwhile, three doubles teams from each section (12) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the Sectional Championships (champion, finalist, third place).
