Blue Devils Remain Unbeaten With 4-0 Win Over Charlotte

DURHAM – The 15th-ranked Duke women’s tennis team went a perfect 2-0 Thursday as the Blue Devils closed the evening with a 4-0 victory over Charlotte at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.  

The win for Duke marked the 100th inside Sheffield since the 2008 campaign.  Earlier in the day, Duke registered a 7-0 win over NC Central and the Blue Devils now move to 3-0 on the year. Charlotte dropped to 2-1 on the season.  

How It Happened

•    For the third straight match, the Blue Devils clinched the doubles point with victories on courts two and three.  

•    On court two, Emma Jackson and Ellie Coleman didn’t lose a game en route to winning, 6-0, against Emma Wilkins and Lucie Petruzelova.  

•    Duke was able to clinch the point with a win on court three as Iuliia Bryzgalova and Brianna Shvets posted a 6-2 win over Sara Suchankova and Shona Nakano.  In the first game, the Blue Devils won a deuce point to take a 1-0 then led 3-0.  After dropping two games, Bryzgalova and Shvets were able to clinch the point.

•    On court one, Duke’s Shavit Kimchi and Karolina Berankova were tied, 4-4, against Ares Teixido Garcia and Lucia Quiterio when the doubles point was clinched.

•    Codd, a sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif., continued her solid play in singles on court four.  After falling in the first game to Suchankova, Codd won three straight to take a 3-1 advantage.  She dropped one more game, before winning three consecutive to take the first set, 6-2.  In the second set, Codd jumped out to a 5-0 lead and then won 6-1.
