ORLANDO – Duke women’s tennis senior Chloe Beck continued her run at the NCAA Singles Championship on Tuesday as she advanced to the round of 16 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Beck, a native of Watkinsville, Ga., collected a 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Michigan’s Jaedan Brown, who is ranked No. 22 nationally. Riding a six-match winning streak, Beck moved to 33-4 on the year. She matched her mark of 33 singles wins from a year ago, which ranks 32nd on Duke’s single-season record charts. Beck has won 27 out of her last 28 matches.
“Jaeden is not an easy opponent to play against,” said Beck. “When she’s aggressive and coming to the net, it is very hard to get it by her. After I lost the second set, I knew that I needed to try and be more aggressive myself and keep fighting to keep her off balance. I’m happy that I was able to bounce back and pull out the third set, 6-4, and I’m pumped to have another match tomorrow.”
She will next face 50th-ranked Layne Sleeth of Oklahoma in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
Fellow Blue Devil senior Georgia Drummy saw her Duke career come to a close with a 7-5, 7-5 loss to 36th-ranked Kari Miller of Michigan. She finished the season with a 13-7 overall record and winner of eight out of her final 10 matches. Over her collegiate career, she compiled an impressive 85-32 singles ledger.
