Battles in Los Angeles – Stanford Cardinal

– The Cardinal continues Pac-12 action on the road in Los Angeles, heading to No. 26 UCLA on Friday, April 12 and No. 54 USC. 
– Stanford is 13-4 this season with wins over Saint Mary’s, Memphis, Pepperdine, Sacramento State, UC Davis, California, UNLV, USC, Oregon,  Washington, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah. The Cardinal is 5-0 in the Pac-12 and in sole possession of first place in the league. UCLA 
– Stanford moved to 19th in the latest ITA Rankings. Nishesh Basavareddy (23) and Samir Banerjee (47) are included in the latest ITA singles rankings, while the duo of Max Basing and Nico Godsick is ranked No. 42 and the pair of Basavareddy and Banerjee are slotted No. 75. Max Basing, Neel Rajesh and Kyle Kang have also been ranked earlier this season.
Samir Banerjee leads the team with 13 singles wins this season, while four players are in double-digits for singles wins, along with Neel Rajesh (11), Hudson Rivera (10) and Kyle Kang (10). Nishesh Basavareddy is 7-1 with all seven wins in the top position.
– Stanford holds a winning record at each singles slot in dual play: No. 1 (11-2), No. 2 (9-4), No. 3 (6-5), No. 4 (9-2), No. 5 (9-4), No. 6 (12-1), and each doubles position: No. 1 (7-5), No. 2 (8-5) and No. 3 (10-3).
– The Cardinal is 64-74 all-time against the Bruins and 66-79 vs. the Trojans. Stanford has won the last four meetings against UCLA and toppled USC earlier this season, 4-0, on March 10. It marked the first sweep of USC since 2003.
– The Cardinal’s 12-man roster is loaded with talent: former No. 1 Arthur Fery, last year’s ITA National Champion Nishesh Basavareddy, Max Basing (ranked as high as No. 4 last year), Banerjee (last year’s Pac-12 Freshman of the Year), three highly-touted freshmen and a series of veteran players with high-level collegiate experience.
– Fery and Basavareddy have seen tremendous success on the ATP Challenger Tour, with both players reaching their first tournament championship match in October. Fery has jumped into the top 300 in the world rankings at No. 266, while Basavareddy has risen more than 600 spots this season to No. 439.
– Stanford was represented in five collegiate tournaments this fall, with Banerjee posting a team-best six singles wins including a berth in the round of 16 at the ITA Fall National Championships. Hudson Rivera (3), Kyle Kang (2) and Neel Rajesh (2) also scored multiple singles wins in the fall, while Banerjee and Aryan Chaudhary combined for a pair of doubles wins.
