TULSA, Okla. – The opening tournament of the campaign is in the books for Stanford men’s tennis, with junior Samir Banerjee leading the way with a quarterfinal appearance in the main draw. With the result, Banerjee qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship in November.

Banerjee posted three singles wins in the tournament, including two over top-25 competition. After taking out Tulsa’s Reiya Komagata in the round of 64, Banerjee beat No. 4 Cooper Williams (Duke) in straight sets. The win matched his top-ranked win at Stanford. The Basking Ridge, New Jersey native continued with a win over Florida’s No. 24 Jeremy Jin in the round of 16, securing his place in the NCAA Tournament, but retired due to injury in the second set of his quarterfinal against No. 71 Aidan Kim (Ohio State).

Banerjee also paired with Nico Godsick in doubles, with the pair advancing out of the qualifying round with wins over ranked tandems from Notre Dame and South Carolina. The duo fell twice in the main draw, including one in tiebreak fashion against the No. 2 pair in the nation from Georgia.

Max Basing and Godsick each went 1-1 in singles, with Basing playing in the qualifying portion and Godsick in the pre-qualifying round. Basing downed No. 100 Derek Pham (Oklahoma State) while Godsick took out Baylor’s Luc Koenig, each in straight sets.

Kyle Kang went 0-2 in the main draw, facing a pair of top-20 competition, while Harsh Hemang Parikh dropped his opener in the pre-qualifying phase.

Stanford’s next collegiate event will be the UCSB Fall Classic, held Oct. 4-8 in Santa Barbara, and the next opportunity to qualify for the NCAA individual championships will be Oct. 17-22 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, hosted by Washington.
