Arizona Sweeps Eastern Illinois - University of Arizona Athletics


URBANA, Ill.– Arizona secures a 7-0 win to start off their weekend in Illinois. The Wildcats celebrated a sweep against Eastern Illinois.

 

Arizona quickly secured the doubles point to advance themselves to a 1-0 lead. Iñaki Cabrera and Alexander Rozin were the first to put a win on the board for the Cats after a shut-out 6-0 victory. Herman Hoeyeraal and Eric Padgham dominate court one, earning the Wildcats the doubles point in a 6-1 finish.

 

Hoeyeraal received his second win of the day and the first of six straight-set victories for Arizona 6-0, 6-1. Following shortly after, Nick Lagaev put one more point on the board in a 6-1, 6-0 upset for Eastern Illinois. This win ties Lagaev for the most single wins in program history, surpassing Alejandro Reguant and ties with Philip Malbasic for 86 wins.

 

Cabrera extended the lead for the Wildcats in his second victory of the day 6-1, 6-1. Eric Padgham secured his win after dominating his court 6-1, 6-2. Following close behind to put the score at 6-0, Casper Christensen took down his opponent 6-0, 6-3. Freshmen Alexander Rozin topped it off for Arizona finishing his singles match 6-2, 6-2.

 

The Wildcats take on No.11 Illinois tomorrow Sunday, March 10th at 12:00 PM (MST). This will complete the weekend of play for the Cats and kickoff their PAC-12 season.
