TEMPE– On Thursday morning, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced that Arizona State received a bid to host the Men’s Regional Championship for the Southwest region. The regional will take place on October 17-22, 2024.
Head Coach Matt Hill praised the opportunity to showcase ASU’s home courts, “It’s something that we’ve been wanting to do for years, we’re really excited. We’ll host the best players from all D1 schools in the southwestern region, so the pool of talent will be great.”
“I can’t wait to showcase Tempe during that time of the year to the fans and the tennis community,” remarked Hill, who will welcome athletes along with the mid-70° Tempe weather.
Whiteman will act as one of 13 host sites, joining Old Dominion, Duke, Tulsa, Michigan State, UNLV, Harvard, Purdue, UCF, LSU, Texas A&M, and two sites TBD.
Each of the 2024 ITA Men’s and Women’s Division I Regional Championships will have a draw size of the following, (Singles: Minimum of 64 Main Draw, Minimum of 64 Qualifying) (Doubles: Minimum of 32 Main Draw, Minimum of 32 Qualifying). From this, the two singles finalists from each region (26) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship.
Meanwhile, the doubles champion from each region (13) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship. Selection criteria and acceptable draw size variations for each of the 2024 Men’s and Women’s Regional Championships will be released later this season.
