Arizona Defeats Fresno State in Singles


TUCSON, Ariz. – Women’s Tennis is now 4-1 after their 4-2 victory over Fresno State. The Cats remain undefeated at home. 

This evening’s doubles point came down to a battle on court three after losing on court one and winning on two. Finishing first was Salma Ziouti and Parker Fry at one doubles where they were swept 6-0 by Yinglak Jittakoat and Matilde Magrini. Then Midori Castillo and Belen Nevenhoven evened out the doubles competition after their 6-3 win against Mariia Vyshkina and Meshkatolzahra Safi. It was left up to Kayla Wilkins and Reece Carter versus Meshkatolzahra Safi and Mariia Vyshkina. The Fresno State pair bested Wilkins/Carter 6-3. 

 

Despite the Bulldogs walking away with the doubles point, the Cats came back to win it all in singles play, doing so in straight sets. Freshman Carter evened out the overall score with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Cristina Flaquer, and Wilkins put Arizona in the lead after defeating Safi 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Fry clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at six singles against Vyshkina. 

The Wildcats will compete in doubles against FAU tonight and finish the match in singles tomorrow at 11 a.m. followed by a matchup against NAU at 3 p.m.
