TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The Alabama men’s tennis team is set to compete at the six-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Championships at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala., this week. The Crimson Tide opens the tournament in doubles on day two, Friday, of the tournament, while five UA student-athletes begin competition in the main draw of singles on Saturday.
Members of the Southern Region will battle over the course of the week for a spot at the ITA National Fall Championships, Nov. 3-5, in San Diego, Calif.
The Tournament
- The tournament will begin Thursday with the first of two qualifying rounds of singles play
- The Tide opens competition Friday in the main draw of doubles as three doubles tandems compete in the bracket for UA
- The main draw of singles starts on Saturday with five Alabama student-athletes competing in the event
Opening Round
- Alabama will be represented by three doubles teams and five singles players at the ITA Southern Regional Championships
- Zach Foster and Enzo Aguiard will face Joaquim Almeida and Braden Hannig (South Alabama) in the opening round while Roan Jones and Matias Ponce De Leon go up against Xavier Sarda Marti and Alin Fatu (Jacksonville State)
- Filip Planinsek and Andrii Zimnokh go head-to-head with Zach Murphy and Marko Milosavljevic (Jacksonville State) in their opening match
- Three UA players earned a first-round bye in the singles main draw as Planinsek, Aguiard and Ponce De Leon await their second-round matchups
- Zimnokh begins singles play against Lachlan Brian (North Alabama), while Jones’ first singles competitor will be a play-fostin from the qualifying bracket
