Alabama Men’s Tennis Set for Final Fall Tournament at Tusca Bama Cup


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Tennis Stadium will serve as the host site for The Tusca Bama Cup Tournament this weekend.

The Crimson Tide will compete against Alabama A&M, Auburn, Jacksonville State, Mississippi State, UAB and West Florida at the three-day tournament. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday followed by a 9 a.m. start on Sunday. Monday’s start time is still to be announced.

The Tournament

  • The Tusca Bama Cup is a University Tennis College Circuit open event presented by the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center at The University of Alabama
  • This will be the second year for the Tusca Bama Cup
  • The Men’s Division has two 16-player draws in the A division (Crimson A, White A) and will follow a compass-style format that provides an equal number of matches for all players, win or lose, until the finals on Monday
  • Each singles match will be 2-out-of-3 sets with a 10-point tiebreaker played in lieu of a third set
  • Alabama will have four players competing in the tournament, including sophomores Filip Planinsek and German Samofalov, along with freshmen Roan Jones and Matias Ponce De Leon
  • Planinsek, Jones and Ponce De Leon will play their first round on Saturday at 8 a.m. followed by their second match that begins at 11:30 a.m., win or lose
  • Samofalov’s first match is set for 9:45 a.m. with the second match scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m.
